The Kansas City Royals swept the short two-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 10-5 victory last night. Will Crowe allowed eight earned runs on eight hits in four innings for the Pirates. His record dropped to 0-4 after he gave up home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, including a grand slam. The Pirates had four batters with two hits, including Adam Frazier, who raised his average to .335.
The Pirates have lost three in a row and have lost seven games in a row in the Royals’ Kauffman Stadium. They are off today, then begin a four-game series with the Miami Marlins Thursday at PNC Park.
The Pirates should see the return of rookie infielder Ke’Bryan Hayes Thursday. Colin Moran and Philip Evans have also begun rehab assignments, but won’t be back until next week.
Former Pirate Starling Marte has returned for the Marlins from a broken rib and will be back in Pittsburgh for the first time since he was traded to Arizona in January 2020. The Diamondbacks later traded him to Miami during the season.
