Pennsylvania appears set to finish the fiscal year with a nice budget surplus after another month of more-than-expected revenue.
The Department of Revenue reported $3.9 billion in collections in May—which is nearly $1.6 billion more than anticipated.
Officials say the increased revenue was due to the tax deadline being pushed back to May this year.
This continues a pattern of bringing in more revenue than expectations, which sets up the state with a healthy budget surplus.
So far, that works out to about $36 billion in collections so far this fiscal year.
