The Miami Marlins broke an eight-game losing streak and avoided a Pirates four-game sweep following a 3-1 victory Sunday at PNC Park. Chad Kuhl took the loss, despite allowing just two earned runs on three hits over six innings. It was his longest outing of the year. Ke’Bryan Hayes had two hits and Adam Frazier added his 20th double of the season. He leads the majors in that category, and now has a 10-game hitting streak.
The game saw the return of first baseman Colin Moran from the Injured List. Starting pitcher Mitch Keller was placed on the COVID-Injured List after he left his Friday start after two innings.
The Pirates are off today, then will host the Los Angeles Dodgers for three games beginning Tuesday night.
Chicago White Sox manager Tony LaRussa earned his 2,764th career win with the White Sox 3-0 victory over Detroit Sunday. The win moved him past John McGraw for second place on the baseball managers list. The top spot belongs to Connie Mack who has almost 1,000 more victories than LaRussa.
