The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept for their third consecutive series after they lost to 3-1 to the Washington Nationals Wednesday. The Pirates have now lost 10 games in a row, their longest losing streak since 2011. Former Pirate first baseman Josh Bell guaranteed the win with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. All three Nationals runs came via home runs. The Pirates continue to have problems driving in runs. They had nine hits, but left nine men on base.
The Pirates are off today and host the Cleveland Indians beginning Friday night.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have tied the Major League Baseball record for road game futility after they lost 13-7 last night to the San Francisco Giants. It was their 22nd consecutive loss in another team’s ballpark.
