A bill over election reform is setting up for another battle between Democratic Governor Tom Wolf and Republicans.
A new proposal was put forward last week by Republicans detailing a list of changes to Pennsylvania election law. And with time running out for the summer legislative session, Wolf is hoping to compromise on a new bill.
“There are things we can do to improve election administration in the Commonwealth, I agree with that. There are simple things that are uncontroversial that I would love to work with [Republicans] on,” Wolf said in a press conference. “Some of these things were mentioned in the bill. And I support them.”
Wolf said he was on board with the ideas of giving counties more time to pre-canvass mail-in ballots, increasing pay for election workers, and giving counties more funding for running elections.
However, Wolf disagreed with the bill’s proposal to decrease voter registration time, signature verification, and voter ID laws.
