The Knoch and Freeport Girls Volleyball teams won state championships Saturday.
–Knoch defeated Allentown Central Catholic 3-2 to win their first PIAA championship. The Knights won the first game of the match 26-24, but dropped the next two sets 27-25 and 25-20. They rallied to win the final two sets 25-18 and 15-12. Knoch completed a perfect 24-0 season.
–Freeport defeated Delone Catholic 3-1 in the 2A championship. The Yellow Jackets lost the first game of the match 25-23, but went on to win 25-9, 25-23 and 25-22 to secure the first-ever state title in any sport for Freeport.
–With North Allegheny winning the 4A championship, it was the first time in WPIAL history that three western Pennsyvlania teams won state titles in the same season.
–Camp Hill defeated Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 3-2 in overtime to win the PIAA 1A Boys Soccer championship Saturday.
