Sunday in the NFL:
–Baltimore pit themselves back into playoff contention with a 23-0 victory over Green Bay. The Ravens improved to 5-5. The Steelers host Green Bay Sunday night.
–Cincinnati defeated Denver 20-17. The Bengals are now 4-6.
–The Browns fell to 0-10 with a 19-7 loss to Jacksonville. Cleveland remains the only winless team in the NFL. Jacksonville improved to 7-3.
–New England kept pace with the Steelers for the best records in the AFC with a 33-8 win over Oakland in Mexico City. The NFL announced Sunday that it has extended its commitment to Mexico to play a game in the country each year from 2019-2021.
–The New York Giants shocked the Kansas City Chiefs 12-9 in overtime. The Chiefs are now 1-4 after starting 5-0.
–Former Pitt quarterback Nathan Peterman’s first start for Buffalo did not go well. He was intercepted five times before being pulled in the Bills 54-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Last night in Sunday Night Football: Philadelphia defeated Dallas 37-9. The Eagles are now 9-1 to lead the NFC East.
Tonight in Monday Night Football: Seattle will host Atlanta at 8:30pm.
High School Football:
–Pine-Richland defeated Central Catholic 42-7 Saturday to win the WPIAL 6A championship. The Rams will meet State College in the PIAA quarterfinals Saturday at Hempfield high school. Kick-off is 1pm.
–Gateway defeated Penn-Trafford 21-16 to win the 5A class.
–Thomas Jefferson won the 4A class championship with a 27-0 win over Montour.
–Quaker Valley won the 3A title with a 2-0 win over Aliquippa.
All for WPIAL champions will compete in the PIAA tournament.
–Karns City fell to Sharon 67-17 in the first round of the PIAA 3A football playoffs Saturday.
–Grove City lost to Hollidaysburg 30-27 Friday in the 5A first round. The Eagles missed a 28-yard field goal as time expired that would have forced overtime.
–Penn State defeated Nebraska 56-44 Saturday and improved to 9-2 overall. The Nittany Lions visit Maryland this Saturday at 3:30pm.
The Nittany Lions moved up one spot to #12 in this week’s Associated Press football rankings. The top five remained unchanged: Alabama is still number one, followed by Miami, Oklahoma, Clemson and Wisconsin.
Assumption eliminated California in the Division II playoffs. Assumption will host Findlay in the Super Region One semi-finals this Saturday. IUP will host West Chester in a rematch of the PSAC Championship game, which the Crimson Hawks won 21-7 two weeks ago. West Chester defeated Shippensburg Saturday.
