State police say they are on a near record pace when it comes to conducting background checks on firearm purchases.
Over the last three months, police did more than 334,000 background checks through the state’s instant check system.
According to police, around 6,500 denials were issued and nearly 1,200 were referred to law enforcement.
The total number of background checks so far this year is closing in on almost 800,000.
