Slippery Rock University defensive lineman Marcus Martin has been named one of the eight national finalists for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award for the second consecutive season. Martin was the only junior in the country named a finalist last year. He is one of only two defensive lineman in the country to be named this season. Former SRU offensive lineman Brandon Fusco won the award in 2010. He currently is with the San Francisco 49ers.Former Pittsburgh Steelers lineman John Banaszak has resigned as the Robert Morris head football coach. Banaszak took over the Colonials after Joe Walton retired, and has gone 9-35. The team was 2-9 this past season.
