Students at a local school are once again coming together to make the holiday season a bit brighter for troops overseas.
A total of 178 care packages were assembled into boxes and loaded onto a military truck to take to the post office Tuesday by students and faculty at the Butler Middle School.
Each homeroom of fifth and sixth graders helped package thousands of the snack items with help from local security forces. All items being sent have been donated and collected by the students. This is the third year of this program.
American Legion Posts 778 in Lyndora and 117 in Butler donated about $5,000 to cover shipping costs for the packages. The packages are expected to arrive just before Christmas.
