The Butler County Sheriff’s office is warning of an elaborate scam that deals with not reporting for federal jury duty.
Sheriff Mike Slupe says that the scammer will call and use very official sounding court language in order to ask for a payment. If you question them, Slupe says the scammers will use foul language and scream while threatening you.
The scam phone number is 724-508-3323 and Slupe says his office has called multiple times in order to fill the scammer’s voicemail.
If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and call police.
Slupe also reminds people to never give credit or debit card information over the phone and do not purchase gift cards in order to pay someone.
