Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Agriculture spent part of last week in Butler County touring a local malt facility.
Our newsroom talked with Russell Redding last Friday after he visited CNC Malt, which is located in the former Clearfield Elementary School.
“We were invited out to the Butler County Farm Bureau which is a great partner of ours. At the state level does a legislative day, where House and Senate members, county commissioners come out and talk about the issues,” Redding said. “Some of those are market related, some are about the innovators like CNC, but also issues like the vaccine and what’s happening nationally.”
Redding said places like CNC Malt, which works with local farmers to produce ingredients for craft beer, are much-needed innovators in the agriculture economy.
“You have to sort of cultivate a new generation and inspire somebody to step into this business. That’s what I like about CNC and what they’re doing with the brewing. They’re malting the barley and crops in this area and looking for more by the way,” Redding said.
