The City of Butler will spend some money to address an issue and make an improvement at Ritts Park.
At their Thursday meeting, City Council accepted a bid from State Pipe Services in an amount not over $16,000 to investigate, remove, and dispose of debris in culverts in the area downstream from Ritts Park. After some unusual recent flooding, the city would like to know if some underground pipes are clogged which could be on private property. This was the lowest of two bids received with the money coming from the City’s capital projects account. The work is expected to take place early next week.
Council also approved a proposal to replace the old lights at Ritts Park with LED lights at a cost of just under $4,000. Hercules will perform this work later this fall when the fence is already taken down to allow for paving. The cost is expected to be recovered through the amount saved on electricity within four years. Some lights in Father Marinaro Park still need to be replaced but the energy-saving change is nearly complete.
