The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 last night to open a three-game series at PNC Park. The Bucs jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first five innings, before the Reds made it close. Dillon Peters started for the Pirates and did not allow a run in his five innings. He allowed five hits and struck out five. Ke’Bryan Hayes, Yoshi Tsutsugo and Jacob Stallings had two hits each for the Bucs.
It was just the second time in 11 games this season – that the Bucs have defeated the Reds.
The two teams play again tonight at 6:35pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:10pm.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Mets last night – and combined with the Reds and San Diego losing, have taken over the final National League Wild Card spot.
