Gas prices continue to increase both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon regular, unleaded, self-serve in Butler, as of Monday, increased by a penny over the past week to $3.37 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by six cents during that same time to reach $3.44. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Greensburg at $3.29 per gallon, while the most expensive is $3.57 in Mercer.
The average national gas price increased by eight cents over the past week to $3.27 which is the highest price in the last seven years and a dime more than last month. The high price of crude oil is the main factor in current gas prices. AAA expects gas prices to stay high as long as production is not increased and demand remains steady.
