State police are providing more information on a pair of crashes that backed up traffic on I-79 Southbound Monday.
The first happened in Worth Township just after 8 a.m. near mile marker 101—which is just north of the Route 422 exit. Police say 63-year-old Mark Minto of Allison Park was driving his tractor trailer when he hit a car that was pulled over on the side of the highway. Minto then swerved back onto the road and collided with the guiderail, which then caused his truck to overturn.
Minto and the driver of the other vehicle, 47-year-old Antoine Hamilton of West Mifflin, were not injured in the crash.
The second then happened around mile marker 103 just after 9:45 a.m. Police say 28-year-old Lawrence Naill of Farrell had to put on the brakes after seeing traffic was stopped. He tried to avoid a tractor trailer in front of him by swerving right, but crashed into a guardrail.
Naill’s car then came back onto the highway and hit the tractor trailer, which was driven by 28-year-old Virgil Ford of Houston. There was also a passenger in the truck, 27-year-old Marquesha Thomas. All three were taken to Grove City Medical Center for unknown injuries.
The accident also caused a fuel leak, which led the Butler County hazmat team to be called in.
