Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is joining with colleagues from other states to investigate the impact of Instagram on young people.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro and eight other Attorneys General are investigating Meta Platforms Inc, formerly known as Facebook, for providing and promoting the social media platform Instagram to children and young adults in a way that puts the public at risk.
The investigation will determine if the company violated state consumer protection laws by using techniques to increase the frequency and duration of engagement by young users.
Recent reports of company internal research revealed that using Instagram can be associated with increased risk of physical and metal harm for young people such as depression and eating disorders.
