Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt was named the NFL’s defensive player of the year last night. Watt received 42 first-place votes, topping Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons who received five first-place votes and Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald who received three first-place votes. The Pitt product Donald had won three of the past four awards, and topped Watt 27-20 in first-place votes last season. Watt becomes the seventh Steeler to win the award behind Troy Polamalu, Mel Blount, Jack Lambert, Rod Woodson, James Harrison and Joe Greene, who won it twice.
