The Florida Panthers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Bryan Rust, Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby scored for the Penguins. Tristan Jarry stopped 25 of 29 shots on goal. The Pens went 0-for-3 on the power play, and gave up a goal on one of two power plays to the Panthers.
It was the Pens second straight loss. They visit the New York Islanders Thursday, then return home to host Las Vegas Friday. Another game with first-place Carolina is Sunday in Pittsburgh. That game has been moved from a 6pm start to 1pm.
Washington’s Alex Ovechkin scored two goals last night in the Capitals 5-4 win over Calgary, and has tied former Penguin Jaromir Jagr for third on the NHL career goals list at 766. Wayne Gretzky is the career leader with 894 goals, and Gordie Howe is second with 801.
