High School Sports:
The Butler Track and Field teams had a dominating day at the Tri-State Track Coaches Associations championships Thursday at West Mifflin high school.
The Butler boys won the team title and brought home eight wins. Guinness Brown won the 400-meter run. Drew Griffith won the 800. Presley Ornelas took both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. Tyler Rekich won the Javelin and Butler swept the 400, 1600 and 3,200-meter relay events.
North Catholic’s Trevor Paschall won the 100 and 200-meter runs.
Grove City’s Josh Dreves won the High Jump and Long Jump. The Grove City boys were runner-up.
The Butler girls were the runner-up. Megan Baggetta won the Triple Jump and the Golden Tornado took runner-up finishes in the 400-meter and 3,200-meter relays.
Abby Steffler of Grove City won the 800-meter run. Her teammate, Abigail Nichols won the 300-meter Hurdles.
Baseball:
–Butler-14 Armstrong-6. –Seneca Valley-7 Hampton-2.
Softball:
–Knoch-5 Kiski Area-2.
–Seneca Valley-19 Plum-2 in five innings.
The WPIAL has announced the winners of its James Collins Scholar/Athlete Awards. All 20 athletes receive $1,000 toward college for each athlete. The winners include: CJ Singleton of Butler and Daniel Simoes of Seneca Valley.
