Slippery Rock University graduate and Hall of Fame college basketball coach Vivian Stringer has announced her retirement Saturday. The 74-year old Stringer was currently the head coach at Rutgers and finishes her career with 1,055 wins, fourth all-time among Division I women’s basketball coaches. She led teams to four Final Four appearances, and is the first coach in men’s or women’s basketball to take three different teams to the national semifinals. Stringer broke into coaching in 1971 at Cheney State after her playing career concluded at Slippery Rock.
