After building a three goal lead in the 1st period, the Pittsburgh Penguins needed some late game heroics to come away with a win in Game 3 vs. the New York Rangers.
They found that hero in Danton Heinen. He buried a shot above backup goaltender Alexander Georgiev, who came in for Rangers starting goalie Igor Shesterkin to start the 3rd period.
The Penguins added a few empty net goals late in the 3rd period to come away with a 7-4 victory.
The scoring started just two minutes into the game for the Penguins, after a Brock McGinn wrap around shot deflected into the net just before it dislodged. Another puck squirted by Shesterkin early on, with Jeff Carter getting credit for the goal.
Evan Rodrigues then added two more of his own, giving the Pens a 4-1 lead after the 1st period. However, that lead was soon wiped out after an impressive 2nd period by the Rangers.
Penguins goaltender Louis Domingue stopped 32 or 36 shots, including a couple of important saves in the 3rd period.
The Penguins now lead the series 2-1 and will host the Rangers again on Monday night at the PPG Paints Arena.
