The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 last night to open a three-game series at PNC Park. Jose Quintana earned the first win for a Pirates starting pitcher this season. He pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
David Bednar allowed the lone Dodgers run when he gave up a home run in the ninth inning.
The Pirates pounded 15 hits in the game, led by Ke’Bryan Hayes who had three hits. He is now batting .333 this season.
Rookie Jack Suwinski hit his first career home run. Catcher Michael Perez hit a home run for the second-straight day. Six Pirate batters had at least two hits in the game.
The Bucs host the Dodgers again tonight at 6:35pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:10pm.
