The Colorado Rockies edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 in 10-innings last night at PNC Park. Roansy Contreras started the game for the Bucs and tossed five scoreless innings and just three hits. He walked two and struck out five. David Bednar allowed the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning, after the Rockies tied the game in the eighth inning thanks to an error by shortstop Rodolfo Castro. The Pirates had five hits, but left nine men on base.
The two teams will complete their series this afternoon at 12:35pm. WISR will carry the game following the Noon News.
The Pirates have an off-day Thursday, then head to San Diego for three games. They begin another three-game series in Los Angeles Memorial Day night.
Daniel Vogelbach has been placed on the 10-day Injured List, and the team called up rookie outfielder Cal Mitchell from Indianapolis where he was batting over .300 and had hit safely in six consecutive games. Mitchell had his first Major League hit last night, and drove in the Pirates only run.
