High School – Weekend recap:
–The Armstrong Softball team won their first WPIAL title in school history after a 6-5 victory over Penn-Trafford in the Class 5A championship game. It is the first WPIAL title in any sport for the school since the merger of the Kittanning and Ford City high schools following the 2015-16 school year. The River Hawks will host Chartiers Valley today at 3:30pm in the PIAA First Round.
–The Seneca Valley Softball team will open the PIAA Class 6A playoffs today when they host Central Dauphin at 4pm today.
–The Karns City Softball team will meet Harbor Creek today in the 3A First Round. The game begins at 1pm in DuBois.
–The Mars Boys Lacrosse team handed Susquehannock their first loss of the season with a 16-5 win in the PIAA Class 2A Quarterfinals Saturday at State College high school. Vincenzo Grieco netted six goals. Austin Cote and Wes Scurci had three goals each as Mars improved to 20-1 this season. They meet Penncrest Tuesday in the state semifinals.
