With rising energy costs, the Pennsylvania Utility Commission is warning residents about possible scams.
David Hixson is with the PUC and he says scammers try to fool customers by making misleading claims about saving money.
He specifically cites two types of scams.
“Robocalls from unidentified sources encouraging the consumer to act quickly and now. The other one is from telemarketing agents who fail to identify themselves, they don’t provide information on who they’re calling on behalf of, or they make a claim they’re associated with the PUC or the local electric utility,” Hixson said.
Hixson says some of the scammers can be high pressure in their phone calls. He urges customers to hang up and call police is you suspect suspicious activity.
