A local lawmaker continues to emphasize the need to guard against national logistics and supply disruptions.
Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly of Butler recently sent a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg concerning the availability of freight rail and transit semiconductor chips.
Kelly points to the chip shortage along with a bottlenecked supply chain as the two major drivers of inflation. Kelly went on to say that he looks forward to working with the administration to make sure that the rail industry in this region remains strong.
In addition to being used in cars and cell phones, semiconductor chips are used in freight railcars to control train systems like advanced braking. The current chip shortage is expected to continue until 2024.
