A local resident has been honored for volunteer service with several organizations.
Adel Fatur of Zelienople was presented with the “16th District Community Champion Award” by U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Zelienople Historical Society.
Fatur was presented with an official plaque and flag certificated as having been flown over the U.S. Capitol building. A statement of congratulations was also entered into the official congressional record.
Fatur is known by many as the “Flag Lady” for selling and placing flags at the 4 Corners Park in July of last year that resulted in an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. She is also a member of the Red Hat Society and Zelienople Historical Society who led efforts to bring the traveling Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to Zelienople.
This award is a quarterly citation issued by Kelly’s office to recognize and thank service-minded individuals for “selfless and significant contributions to their surrounding communities.”
