State police are warning residents about a phone scam.
Officials say someone has been placing phone calls using a method known as spoofing, to make it look like the calls are coming from the state police.
The caller demands a payment of an outstanding fine and threatens jail time.
State police say they never will make a call like that and definitely do not ask for payment over the phone or gift cards.
Anyone who receives a call or text like this should hang up and not respond.
