Millions of dollars in state funding is coming to the Boyers area to help fund a new sewer system.
The Wolf Administration awarded the county nearly $3.8 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to the project—meaning most of the project is now fully funded according to Butler County Chairman of Economic Development Mark Gordon.
“The beauty with all of this is that it will cover the tap-in fee,” Gordon said. Tap-in fees could have been as high as $3,000 per home. There are around 100 homes on the failing sewer system, and most of the homes fall into a low-to-moderate income category.
Gordon also said that the grant saves the county from seeking a statewide loan, which could’ve significantly increased monthly bills. “It was a $95 rate, which would have happened if the loan came through PennVEST. That’s what PennVEST calculated as the affordability factor, and we all know that was unrealistic,” Gordon said.
Gordon says all the engineering and design concepts are complete for the project, and it expects the project to begin next year.
