The state house did not override Governor Tom Wolf’s veto of a bill sponsored by a local lawmaker.
Republican State Representative Aaron Bernstine says that the house did not override his Markie’s Law bill, which focuses on parole process for violent offenders.
The bill would have delayed parole consideration by another 24 months if the violent offender committed a violent assault while in prison.
The bill was named after 8-year-old Markie Mason, who was stabbed to death by a man who was released at the end of his minimum sentence despite assaulting someone while in jail.
Bernstine says he will continue to fight for the bill in the future.
