Joey Logano won his second Nascar Cup Series championship Sunday by taking the checkered flag at Phoenix Raceway. It was Logano’s fourth win of the season. The victory also gave car owner Roger Penske two titles in the same season when Will Power added the IndyCar championship to Team Penske.
Championship qualifier Ross Chastain finished third in the race behind Ryan Blaney. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell was 10th, racing hours after the organization learned that vice chairman Coy Gibbs had passed away in his sleep at the age of 49. The Hendrick Motorsports streak of two consecutive Cup titles ended after Chase Elliott was spun early in the race by Chastain yesterday and finished 28th.
