A local lawmaker is confident that a new law will help improve the quality of health care available to Pennsylvania residents.
Representative Aaron Bernstine originally introduced legislation that became Senate Bill 225 which is now Act 146 of 2022 after the signature of Governor Tom Wolf.
This legislation streamlines the process for prior authorization of medical services by requiring insurers to make an electronic communications network available to handle prior authorization requests and authorizations. This is already the case in 44 states.
This law will take effect in January of 2024.
