After years in the making the cracker plant in Beaver County is now operating.
The Shell Chemical petrochemical complex officially began turning natural gas liquid ethane into pellets.
Shell had spent the last six years and more than $6 billion building the plant.
The long-anticipated opening has had support of multiple governors and local officials, who view it as a boon to the local economy.
In addition to the 600 current employees, the cracker plant required hundreds of workers to construct the facility, which sits on the Ohio River in Potter Township.
