The Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in a shoot-out last night. Danton Heinen and Bryan Rust scored Penguins goals during regulation. Casey DeSmith stopped 43 of 45 shots on goal for the Pens, and held the Capitals off during a four-on-three power play in overtime. The Pens were outscored 2-1 in the shoot-out.
They are now 4-and-9 in their 13 shoot-out games this season. With the extra point in the victory, Washington is now one point in front of the Pens for fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Pens return home to host the San Jose Sharks Saturday for a 7pm face-off at PPG Paints Arena. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:30pm.
The Pens will be off for the All-Star Break after Saturday’s game and will return to the ice Tuesday, February 7th when they host Colorado.
