A judge has ruled on a motion by the defense for the accused Tree of Life synagogue shooter that could result in a longer sentencing phase.
According to our news partners at WPXI-TV, if Robert Bowers is found guilty, prosecutors will be required to argue why he is eligible for the death penalty.
This will take place before victim impact testimony which defense lawyers believe would impact any decision by a jury. Jury selection for the Bowers trial will begin on April 24.
Bowers remains held in the Butler County Prison after the mass shooting event in the fall of 2018 killed 11 people and injured 27 others.
