A new executive order by Governor Josh Shapiro looks to improve the processes of occupational licensing, permitting, and certifying.
Shapiro signed the order yesterday that will eventually establish a timeline for every license, permit, or certification issued by state agencies so that residents who make application know when they will receive a response.
“These licenses, permits, and certificates effect millions of Pennsylvanians every single year. We know time is money, not just for big businesses here in the Commonwealth but for every Pennsylvanian,” Shapiro said. “But for too many Pennsylvanians when they hear back often feels arbitrary, uncertain, and it takes way too much time. Sometimes they don’t hear back at all.”
All applications will still be carefully considered but if applicants don’t receive a response by the pre-determined date, they will receive a refund of their application fee.
All state agencies will have 90 days to compile a list of licenses, permits, and certificates as well as review and analyze the processes to grant those documents in order to provide certainty to applicants.
