Even though the Salvation Army in Western Pennsylvania fell short of their fundraising goal this year, officials say a large amount of money was still collected.
The Western PA Division began with a target of nearly $2.3 million and ended with about 89% of that for a total of just over $2.03 million.
Locally, the Butler Salvation Army raised over 90 percent of their $90,000 goal.
The two biggest days of kettle collections were largely canceled out as a result of severe cold temperatures and winter weather.
This annual campaign supports local families and individuals through programs focused on food, rent and utility assistance, and youth empowerment.
