The Butler boys bowling team finished runner-up at the Pennsylvania State High School Bowling Tournament on Saturday. The Golden Tornado were the top seed after qualifying, but then fell 2-1 in the best-of-three championship match to Manheim Township. Manheim qualified fourth and won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches to reach the championship roll-off. Luke Keene led Butler in qualifying with a 598 series. Zac Kniess had a high game of 231. Rocco Rice added a 226. Eric Devore had a high game of 209.
The Freeport girls qualified third overall, but fell in the semifinals to Penn Manor 2-0. The Yellow Jackets swept Kiski 2-0 in their quarterfinal round championship match. Freeport’s Hannah Windows was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Butler girls finished seventh overall in the state team championships. Natalie Coughenour led the Golden Tornado with a 522 series.
On Friday, Butler’s Alex Ekas finished eighth overall out of 24 bowlers competing in the State Singles championships. He averaged 201 for six games of qualifying, and missed the championship roll-off by just 15 pins. Luke Keene, also of Butler finished 14th.
Also on Friday, Freeport’s Julia Cummings and Makenzie Livingston finished 14th & 15th in the Girls Singles championships.
