Senator Bob Casey is sponsoring legislation that he says would help fire departments with their facilities.
The bill is known as the FIRE STATION Act and it would create a $750 million fund in the Federal Emergency Management Administration that would be set aside to build, renovate, and modernize fire and EMS departments in the country.
Casey says that many fire stations are struggling with crumbling facilities and a lack of resources to fix them. This fund would allow departments to access money to help repair the facilities.
A recent study found that 44 percent of fire stations in the U.S. are over 40 years old and in need of significant repairs.
