The chief lobbying group for public school teachers is asking for higher starting salaries to help address the shortage of teachers.
The president of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) recently testified at a state hearing that the state should set the minimum salary for Pennsylvania education professionals at $60,000. That would include teachers, counselors, and nurses.
They also advocated for people like bus drivers, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers to earn a minimum of $20 per hour.
The PSEA also called on the legislature to provide scholarship programs for teachers in order to increase the workforce.
