The Knoch School District is joining a lawsuit against social media companies.
The district’s board voted to join the federal lawsuit earlier this week. In the suit, the plaintiffs claim the companies targeted youth to “compulsively use their services” to maximize profits while causing harm to their mental health.
The suit targets social media companies like Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and more. Engaging lawfirms such as Dillion, McCandless, King, Coulter, and Graham to participate in the suit will not cost the district any money.
Knoch officials say the suit is about protecting children from the harmful effects of social media. They add that social media can disrupt the learning environment and increase problems such as bullying.
