A running event this weekend will honor the legacy of an Evans City resident while raising funds for a community library.
“Lace Up for the Library” takes place this Saturday in Evans City. The event benefits the Evans City Library and is organized by the Patti J. Nelson Foundation.
Cassie Nelson is Patti’s daughter. She began the race seven years ago in memory of her mother, who passed away due to cancer.
“She wanted us to do something for the library. Both my parents are amazing role models and great people in the community,” Nelson said. “I never thought we’d make it five years, let alone seven years. I think we’ll keep doing it as long as people will show up.”
The 5K and mile race begins at 10 a.m. on Old Route 68. Nelson says there will be basket raffles, 50/50, food, beverages and more at the end of the race.
Registration for the 5K can be found here. There’s also more information available on the Patti J. Nelson Facebook page.
