There is still time for residents to join a local nonprofit organization for a free educational program for adults dealing with a mental health condition.
Peer to Peer is an eight week program sponsored by NAMI, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness, that begins a week from today at 5:30 p.m. and continues weekly through August 1st at NAMI’s Butler office in the Holly Pointe Building.
This two-hour in-person class will include course materials provided at no cost. Trained leaders with lived experience will introduce activities, facilitate discussions, and present informative videos. The hope is that attendees will be more open when talking to professionals who have shared experiences, according to Executive Director Donna Lamison.
“By giving these people a chance to interact with those that have lived experience and can understand where they are (and) where they’ve been in an anonyms stage setting,” said Lamison. “They will be more open to learning and more able to identify with those that are teaching them.”
There are seats still available but class size is limited. Registration has been extended to June 12th those interested in participating should call or visit the website of NAMI.
