It’s now been 12 days since the deadline passed for a state budget.
Despite the fact that both the House and Senate passed a $45.5 billion budget, there are still a couple of issues that have prevented the bill going to the governor’s office.
One of the reasons the budget still hasn’t gone before Governor Josh Shapiro is due to the fact that the State Senate is out of session until September.
Another is the battle of private school vouchers—a program that Shapiro initially supported, but was rejected by House Democrats.
It’s expected that the stalemate will continue for the foreseeable future—the biggest impact is on state-related universities like Pitt and Penn State, that are not receiving their full funding from the state.
