The National League All-Stars defeated the American League 3-2 last night, for their first victory in the annual mid-season game in over a decade. Former Pirates catcher Elias Diaz hit a game-deciding two-run home run in the eighth inning. Diaz, now with Colorado, was making his first All-Star appearance at the age of 32, and was named the game MVP. Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller allowed a solo home run in the second inning in his All-Star debut. Keller threw 8 of his 11 pitches for strikes in his lone inning, and recorded a strikeout.
Philadelphia Phillies reliever Craig Kimbrel struck out Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians with two on in the ninth inning to earn the save, and give the National League its first victory since 2012.
David Bednar of the Pirates did not make an appearance.
