The city of Parker, just over the Butler County line in northern Armstrong County, will mark its 150th anniversary with a celebration Saturday at the city park, with activities beginning at noon.
There will be a car cruise through town, a river float on the Allegheny, and fireworks in the evening.
During a short-lived oil boom in the late 1800’s, Parker’s population soared to over 20,000.
When the oil ran out, so did the people. Today’s population is around 900.
