The Pirates have now signed 19 of their recent 21 MLB draft picks after paying up to attract a high school pitcher away from college. The Pirates have signed Zander Mueth, a Mississippi recruit, with an above-slot agreement valued at more than $1.8 million. The contract pays Mueth more than $700,000 over his slot value. The 6-foot 6-inch, 205-pound right-hander was selected at the end of the second compensatory round with the 67th pick overall. He was considered the 33rd-best pick in the recent draft. He has a fastball that has peaked in high school at 97 mph.
