The Slippery Rock University football team moved up to #7 in the nation this week in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division II poll. The Rock had been steady at #10 for two weeks, but have jumped three spots after their 49-24 victory over Gannon last weekend. The Rock will host California for their Homecoming game this Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Slippery Rock enters the game 7-0. California is 5-1.
Rock tight end Andrew Miller was honored with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Special Teams player of the week honor. He made two key tackles in The Rock’s win over Gannon, but also made a critical kick-off recovery in the second half. The special teams “gunner” raced down field and recovered a kick held up in the wind near the Rock sideline and completed recovery of what became an on-side kick. Slippery Rock has now had a player honored by the state conference after each game this season.
The Grove City College football team moved up a spot to #22 this week in the AFCA Division III poll after defeating Allegheny 31-7 last Saturday. The Wolverines improved to 7-0 with the win, and reached their highest ranking in school history. They host St. Vincent this Saturday.
