Longtime Nascar broadcaster Ken Squier has passed away. He was 88. Squier was the voice when Nascar was introduced onto the national scene with the broadcast of the 1979 Daytona 500. He was inducted into the sports Hall of Fame and its annual award for media excellence was named after him and Barney Hall, another legendary voice of the sport.
Squier was co-founder of the Motor Racing Network after being tasked by Nascar founder Bill France, Sr. to build a nationwide network of radio stations to cover his growing sport. That network of stations continues today. WBUT radio is part of the Motor Racing Network airing Cup Series races every weekend.
